A Surprise Call at Midnight

It was past midnight, and Mary was asleep when her phone rang. She answered, still groggy from her deep sleep.

"Hello?" Mary said, her voice groggy.

"Mary, it's me, your brother Tom," the voice on the other end said, urgent and panicked.

Tom was living in another state, and Mary hadn't heard from him in weeks.

"What's wrong? Are you okay?" Mary asked, her heart racing with worry.

"No, I'm not okay. I need your help," Tom said.

Mary quickly got out of bed, put on her clothes, and drove to the airport. She didn't know what was happening, but she knew she needed to be there for her brother.

When she arrived, she saw Tom sitting on a bench outside the terminal, looking exhausted and defeated. As soon as he saw Mary, he ran to her and hugged her tightly.

"Thank you for coming, sis," Tom said, his voice choked with emotion.

Mary could feel Tom trembling in her arms, and she knew something was terribly wrong.

"What happened, Tom? What's going on?" Mary asked, holding him tighter.

Tom took a deep breath and began to explain. He had lost his job, his girlfriend had left him, and he had been struggling with addiction. He had hit rock bottom, and he needed Mary's help to get his life back on track.

Mary knew it wouldn't be easy, but she also knew that she couldn't turn her back on her brother. They spent the next few days together, talking and making a plan for Tom's recovery.

As she drove back home, Mary realized that sometimes the most important calls come at the most unexpected moments. She knew that her journey with her brother would be a long one, but she was ready to do whatever it takes to help him.
